Citation generators allow you to enter the required information about your source into a form, and then they take that information and format it according to the style you specify.  Some citation generators have "look up" features - these allow you to pull that required information into the tool automatically.

Many library databases have built-in citation generators you can use to quickly format citations.

You should plan to revise and tweak your citations before you turn in your final product -- especially when you use automatic "look up" features, or database tools.
